Spider Solitaire

Spider Solitaire is a popular variation of the classic Solitaire game that gained widespread popularity when it was included in the Microsoft Windows operating system in 1998. Spider Solitaire offers different difficulty levels with 1 Suit, 2 Suits, and 4 Suits variations.

How to Play Spider Solitaire

Rules

• Tableau piles are built down in the same suit(e.g., a 9♠ on a 10♠).
• One card or a sequence of cards in the correct order can be moved as a group.
• Any card can be placed in an empty tableau spot.
• Once a full sequence from King to Ace is built in the same suit, it is moved to the foundation.
• When no moves are available, draw 10 cards from the stock with each tableau pile receiving 1 card.
• There is no stock re-deal.

Objective

The goal is to fill 8 empty foundations by creating card sequences in the tableau in descending order from King to Ace. Once a sequence is complete, move it to one of the empty foundations. The game is won when all foundations are filled, and no cards remain in the tableau or stock pile.

Setup

• The game uses two standard 52-card decks (104 cards), but only one suit is used (usually Spades).

• 54 cards are dealt face down into 10 tableau piles:

  • The first four piles have 6 cards each, and the remaining six piles have 5 cards each.
  • Only the top card of each tableau is dealt face up.

• The remaining 50 cards form the stock pile, which is placed face down.

Variations

Spider Solitaire comes in different variations, offering various levels of difficulty:

• Spider Solitaire 1 Suit - The simplest version, using only one suit. Ideal for beginners.
• Spider Solitaire 2 Suits - A more challenging version, using two suits - Hearts ♥ and Spades ♠. This version requires more skill and strategy.
• Spider Solitaire 4 Suits - The most difficult variation, using all four suits - Hearts ♥, Spades ♠, Diamonds ♦, and Clubs ♣. Perfect for seasoned players looking for a real challenge.
