There are different variations available, such as Turn 1 and Turn 3.

How to Play Klondike Solitaire

Rules

  • Tableau piles are built down in suit by alternating color (e.g., a 9♥️ on a 10♠).
  • One card or a sequence of cards in the correct order can be moved as a group.
  • Only King or sequences of cards starting with a King can be placed in an empty tableau spot.
  • One card can be drawn at a time from the stock to the waste pile.
  • Only top card of the waste pile is available for play.
  • When no cards remain in stock, cards from the waste pile can be flipped back to the stock pile.
  • Foundations are built up in the same suit from Ace to King.
  • You are allowed to move cards from foundations back to tableau.

Objective

The objective remains the same as in traditional Klondike Solitaire: build up the foundations from Ace to King in each suit.

Setup

Klondike Solitaire uses a standard 52-card deck. The game setup is as follows:

  • There are 7 tableau piles. Starting from the left, the first pile has 1 card, the second pile has 2 cards, and so on, up to the seventh pile, which has 7 cards. The top card of the tableau piles is dealt face up and rest are face down.
  • There are 4 foundation piles, which should be built in ascending order from Ace to King.
  • The remaining cards are placed in the stock pile, which you can draw from to access more cards. Cards drawn from the stock pile are placed in the waste pile.

Variations

Klondike Solitaire has several variations that offer different levels of difficulty and gameplay styles:

  • Klondike Turn One: In this version, you draw one card at a time from the stock pile, making it easier to plan your moves and manage the tableau.
  • Klondike Turn Three: In this version, you draw three card at a time from the stock pile. This version is harder difficulty compared to Turn One.
